Confidence -yes, that is what TM gave me 33 years ago in the Monument TM Club of Silver Spring, Md and that is why I realised my potentiol too having the courage after a year to go and teach at the American University in Washington DC,

I do not think the goals of people joining changed so much nor the good manuals, also there were 15 and not 10 first speeches then, and men were not so used to have also women in the clubs, but they still welcomed us (with a bit of suspicion yest)

Great interview, great story too - I'll speak about it a little in my next speech in Greenwich (Meridiam tm) of London.

Hi Bo/Ryan,

Fantastic Interview!  Great points raised and the responses were well thought out.  Certainly i think we are going to see a lot happening in Toastmasters this year.

Gary Schmidt's confidence is contagious and Toastmasters Club leaders will be inspired to work harder in the advancement of their clubs and members, as well as attracting new members into their clubs.

Congratulations Gary!!  Have a wonderful year.

Confidence, leadership, service ... Hmmm ... These are based upon the verbs confide, lead, serve ... It is thru confiding in others that we earn and build their trust in us.  Leaders must confide in their fellow Toastmasters as Gary has confided in us thru this podcast.  To lead is to serve.  Just like a jedi or ancient samurai I envision a legion of Toastmasters taking up Gary's challenge.  Great pod-cast.  KUDOS to Bo and Ryan for yet another insightful interview.

Thanks Bo, Ryan and Gary,

enjoyable podcast and great to hear the perspective of the new IP.

Gary, I thought your point about reaching out to Gen Y and younger was a great one.

Heavy use of electronic communications like Facebook, SMS and email can perhaps give the impression that there is little more to learn about communications.

Getting involved in Toastmasters can still do great things for communications skills, before even thinking about the leadership side of the programme.

Good to hear, and a good start, Gary.

Thanks.

congrats to Gary He sounds like he will be a great leader for this time. I echo his ideas on servive for in order to be of service one has to learn listening skills and this is what Toastmasters has taught me how to listen and listen with intensity.

I was amazed with your podcast with the interview with our new international president. By listening to the interviews, I feel more close to Toastmasters International and I feel as if I attended the World Conference this summer. I would like to encourage our members to be the listeners! Thank you so much!
