Sean Bossie, not yet a member of Toastmasters, is working onchartering a club in the rural Northern New Hampshire area. Sean shares hisexperience with Toastmasters so far and why he is looking forward tomembership. [16:55]
I enjoyed listening to the interview with Sean. I will take the idea of an agenda back to our club as a recommendation. It always good to hear from another person what they experienced with their first initial visit. It was interesting to know that Sean had noticed a difference in the communication of his friends. I look forward to hearing other Podcast. Please tell me how you became acquainted with Sean and how he agreed to the interview. Our club is still working on the goal of twenty people. We have gotten as high as fifteen and then we have people stop coming due to work, relocation, etc.Eva PattonVP of EducationClub 8943

Responding to Eva's comment: our club struggled for 3 years signing up charter members. We would sign them up, they would transfer jobs to another state and we lost them. In January of 2005 when we lost a prospective member due to DEATH, we knew we needed to concentrate on signing up members if we ever wanted to reach 20 to charter.I am happy to say that by May, 2005 we finally reached our 20 and could charter. Our membership now fluctuates between 25 and 15 after dues renewal. We hold Open Houses, and continually work to build the membership back to charter strength by April15. We don't want to be scrambling in June to find enough members to be distinguished, we want President's Distinguished Club nailed after April renewals are posted.By the way, if you are aware of the normal 40-70% drop in retention at International after each dues period, you will plan to meet the non-renewals head on and bring in enough members before renewal time so the club suffers only a TURNOVER and not a LOSS of members. International is always growing in membership as evidenced by 80,000 members when I joined in 1996 to the 250,000 members worldwide in 106 countries. Prospective members are out there, we just have to concentrate on getting the word out. This site has given us great ideas for attracting new members. Thank you Justin and all who have enriched this site by their participation.Carol L. KormelinkCincinnati, OH USA
